Ardour is great but the 'Noise Cancellation' plugin (C.Noisegate - Attenuating hum and noise) doesn't seem to work very well. I'd tried various settings and still haven't been able to cut the hissing out. The best thing I've found so far is Audacity's 'Noise Removal' effect but that's not real-time. It may help to remember that White Noise is usually 10kHz and up and Line Feed (low hum) is around 50Hz and lower.
Attenuating your samples at those freqs will help reduce noise without much loss of quality–Feb 25 '18 at 12:46.
Hello,My Asus laptop's noise cancelling feature doesn't work well with the internal mic; the sound gets really unclear and sounds far. What I have tired and learned:1- Mic boost is not a solution, because it is mainly a clarity problem.2- Without the noise cancelling feature that comes with the drivers, the sound is clearer, but there is that 'sssshhhhhhhh' sound in the background. Ok for google voice seach, Rosetta Stone and offline recording ( enables editing ), but quite disturbing for human listeners in real time.3- They won't update the drivers.
Even the drivers on Asus's offical website for windows 7 are faulty; it is cracky.! Now I use drivers for Vista on Windows 7.4- ManyCam had that feature, worked just fine with some cpu load. But, when enabled, mic boost wasn't applicable.
So, this time it was unusable because of it being too quite.5- I have seen other brands' internal mics, too. They work great! Apple, Toshiba.
I don't understand why on earth a company would include a feature that doesn't work in their device. I guess Asus is like Samsung smart phones in that regard ( Not a fan, just reporting what I have heard )6- I have a headset. It works fine, but not always convenient to use everywhere.7- Windows 8 isn't supported, linux also lacks noise cancelling feature. The universe is against me, lol.Any other trick or software I could try?

Better PC Controls So, the original PC controls are pretty lackluster, so much. Very odd, given that the Witcher 2 had this, and it would free a key. I am using a 5 button mouse, so I don't know how to work this for 3 buttons.
First I'd make sure my sound adapter drivers were up to date with the manufacturer of the cards most recent driver. IE, if your card was a Realtek card, find your chip id and go find the most recent driver compatible with Windows 7 for it at Realtek, not ASUS, unless ASUS has the same driver available.Second, you can use an external mic. They make one's that are very small and portable and won't tend to pick up fan and hard drive noise from the inside the case.Third, you can also try an external usb sound device which are available fairly small and portable as well.I realize there is some expense and some loss of convenience with the last two options but sometimes getting a desired result is a give and take, especially with older hardware. Thanks,It actually warns you on Realtek's website that there might be optimization related problems with your device; they work only on Vista without optimization and the noise cancelling gets even more extreme, which affects the internal mic further. All features of my sound card including noise cancellation work perfectly with external hardware since the external mics are closer to your mouth, they don't get affected by extreme noise cancellation.
So, I don't need one for my existing external headset's mic. I wonder though. Can I get the internal mic work with an external USB sound card? If so, I could consider that investment both for input and output quality.I know that it seems like I'm thinking a lot for a feature that is not regarded as the most important for most, but it is for a language lover.
I use 3 filters in Adobe Audition for live noise canceling (specific order in which they work is also important, for my results at least). It works very well.
I was thinking of making a video-tutorial about it.For reference - I use Corsair Vengeance 1400 and if you know how horrible the mic is by default, you can compare it to my voice from my stream (not perfect, but great improvement, I think):(or any other video/highlight)P.S.I took the idea from, but later added a couple more filters and tweaks from myself. Using ONLY this one filter will clear the sound a bit, but will also make it quieter. Also, using this software will throw another couple%'s load on your CPU. The sound blocking happens because your brain gets used to the sound coming from the machine and the only other sounds that your brain registers are those louder that the sounds from the device. As a result, these are great for people suffering from tinnitus, or a ringing of the ear.
I have only experienced this a few times in my life, but it was pretty terrible.
